Howard C Bennett Jr., 88, of Schenectady, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021. Howard was born in Albany, the son of the late Howard C. Bennett Sr. and Pauline Elizabeth Bennett, and he grew up in Colonie, NY. He was happily married to Mildred Bennett for 65 Years, who passed away in 2018. He was a graduate of Vincentian Institute H.S. in Albany, Class of 1950 and proudly served 2 years in the U.S Army, completing Officers Candidate School and earning a commission as 2nd Lt. Howard was in the General Electric Apprentice program where he studied drafting and enjoyed a 34 year career at various GE locations including the Engineered Cast Products Department in Schenectady, serving as a manager in the scheduling department and retiring in 1987.
Howard and wife Millie were long time communicants of the former St Helen's Church in Schenectady. They spent several years breeding and raising tropical parrots. He was a loving family man and enjoyed golf, home improvement projects, reading and working on his computer.
Howard is survived by his son, David Bennett of Schenectady, daughter Karen Bunton (Eric) of Aynor SC, Grandchildren David H Bennett of Seattle, Hector Martinez of Schenectady, the late Luisa Travis and beloved great grandchildren. Also his beloved cousin Marcia Sutherland of San Diego. He was predeceased by his sisters Norma Nagengast and Joyce Crannage. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the caring, hardworking staff at Albany Medical Center for the compassionate care shown to Howard during his treatments.
Burial with military honors will take place at 10 am at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna
