GUILDERLAND – Howard L. Van Voorhis, 86, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011 at his residence. Born in Worcester, NY, he was the son of the late Leon and Margaret (McClintock) Van Voorhis.
Howard served his country in the US Navy during WWII, and continued a career with the Division of Military Naval Affairs for 27 years. He was the owner of Discount Paint and Wallpaper in Ravena for 22 years. In his free time, Howard enjoyed being with family and friends at his Kinderhook Lake summer house, which he built in 1952.
Howard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Mae (Lehman) Van Voorhis, who he lovingly called his "bride." She is currently residing at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Military and committal services will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Selkirk.
