Howard D. Schafer

Howard Daniel Schafer Jr. 85 passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home December 13, 2017. Born in Albany July 20, 1932, he was the only son and second of four children of the late Howard D Schafer and Margaret (Campion) Schafer.
Howard is survived by his wife of 61 years Caroline (Scanlan) Schafer. They lived and raised their five sons in the home he built in Guilderland, NY. He will be remembered for his desire to be an active participant in his sons and their familiy's lives.
He is survived by his sons and their wives: Howard III and Trina , Michael and Laura, Matthew and Mary, Mark and Melissa, and Stephen and Kelly. He had thirteen grandchildren, whom he loved to visit, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Saint Madeleine Sophie Church in Schenectady, NY on December 23 at 2 pm. Flowers or cards may be sent to their home.
