Albany- Hyck H. DerGurahian, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2022. He was the son of the late Michael and Rose (Zambakjian) DerGurahian. Hyck was the devoted husband of Lucinda DerGurahian. They were married 33 years.
After graduating from Watervliet High School, Hyck enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Medical Corpsman during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Hyck went on to become a Research Engineer at Norton Company until his retirement.
Hyck was a proud member of the Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church in Troy and St. Pius X church in Loudonville.
Hyck enjoyed spending time with his family, and was often seen walking across the Watervliet bridge greeting friends and neighbors. Hyck had a lucky hand when it came to slot games and the lottery.
In addition to his wife, Hyck is survived by his sisters-in-law Debbie Zimmer and Winifred Potter, brother in law Dennis Zimmer and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Hyck was the youngest sibling and predeceased by his sister Alice and his brothers Ed, Chuck, Jack, and Marcy.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 10am to 12pm with a funeral service to follow at 12pm. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Hill Cemetery, 51 Belle Ave, Troy, NY 12180.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Brookdale East Memory Care Unit and the staff in Carmel Gardens at the Teresian House that provided kind and compassionate care to Hyck and his family.
