Hyung Hwa Chang, 45, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Albany Medical Center with her loving family and friends by her side.
Born in Sooncheon, South Jeolla Province, South Korea, the cherished daughter of Joongsin Chang and Bongnam Jeong, she had a bachelor's degree in Law from Ewha Womans University in South Korea. She worked at two law firms, Lee & Ko, as well as Choi & Kim before she started her study in History of Art as a graduate student at Ewha Womans University. She also worked at Gallery Hyundai in South Korea prior to her marriage to Jeong-Hyon Hwang in 2001. She has been a devoted wife and mother to their daughter Yaurie J. Hwang and son Andrew U. Hwang.
Hyung Hwa was fond of classical music and a passionate reader with particular interests in poetry, history of art, religion, and current events. She was exceptional in her consideration for others and enjoyed cooking and conversing with family and friends. She also actively participated as a teacher at Rhode Island Korean School and the Korean Presbyterian Church of Albany.
In addition to her parents, husband, and children, she is survived by her brothers Euncheol Chang and Yongsuk Chang, parents in law Sangro Hwang and Keumsoon Kim, brother in law Ji-Hyon Hwang, as well as many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Memorial visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday, December 11 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd, Watervliet, NY 12189, where a funeral service will be held at 7 pm. Family and friends are also invited to gather at the address above on Tuesday, December 12 between 11:30 am and 12 noon where a brief prayer will be conducted. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy Schenectady Rd, Niskayuna, NY 12309.
