SCHENECTADY – Ida Snyder, 91, passed away Monday, June 27, 2022, at home with her family by her side. She was born on July 15, 1930 to the late Maria and Michael Fischer in Elizaville, NY. She was married for 63 years to her husband, Richard Snyder, who predeceased her in 2013.
During her married life, Ida lived in Mariaville, NY where she participated as a den mother for the Mariaville Cub Scouts, was a member of the PTA, and a leader of the Chuctanunda Chuggers 4-H Club. She rang with the Goldenbelle Handbell Group and The Thursday Bells, sewed with the Annie Schaffer Senior Center sewing and quilting group, and bowled with the Early Birds bowling league. Ida enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren to play piano, cook, and sew. Each member of her family was privileged to receive a handmade quilt representing their personal likes. Her interests also included bingo, scrabble, crosswords, dice games, eating at Red Lobster and United Buffet, and anything Johnny Cash. She made it a point to see her favorite Johnny Cash impersonator, Terry Lee Goffee, whenever he performed anywhere within driving distance. Her devotion, though, was to her husband, family, and friends. She was a selfless mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all.
Ida is survived by her four children: Mark Snyder, Debra Fusco, Jennifer (Patrick) Capasso, and Brian (Kimberly) Snyder; her seven grandchildren: Lisa (Mark) Bystry, Heidi (Orin Chait) Fusco, Adam (Carmella) Fusco, Aaron (Jessica) Griesbeck, Jillian (Michael) Sopok, Gwendolyn (Jordan) Durci, and Danielle Snyder; her eight great-grandchildren: Aryana, Beau and Kayleigh Bystry, Mariana and Olivia Fusco, Alexander and Josephine Griesbeck, Madison Sopok, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ida was predeceased by her brother, four sisters, and her daughter Sandra Griesbeck.
With grateful hearts, the Snyder family is thankful to The Community Hospice for all of the assistance, care, compassion, and empathy shown to Ida and her family. Special thanks to her dedicated Hospice caregivers, Missy and Renee.
Calling hours will be at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road in Colonie on Sunday, July 10 from 2 to 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ida's memory to The Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd, Albany, NY 12205 or communityhospice.org.
