Delmar- Iliana Alexandra Semmler, age 83, died on June 17, after a few years' decline. Her husband and daughters were by her side.
She was predeceased by her mother, Eleanor Semmler; her father, pianist, composer and conductor Alexander Semmler; and her son Douglas Hastings.
Surviving her are her loving husband of 63 years, George Hastings; her daughters Rada Hastings (Anders Olsson) and Judith Singer (Leonard); her son Geoffrey Hastings (Susi Rugama); and five grandchildren.
Iliana earned her B.A. at Swarthmore College, her M.A. at the University of Pennsylvania, and her Ph.D. at the University at Albany. She taught there in the English Department until her retirement, with specialties in American Literature and Literature and Medicine.
She was an accomplished pianist, and enjoyed classical concerts. She traveled extensively. She loved the company of her family, her many friends, and her two Siamese cats, all of whom will miss her very much.
There will be a memorial service at 3:00pm Tuesday, June 28, at the First Unitarian Universalist Society, 405 Washington Avenue, Albany 12206.
