ALBANY - Irene F. Piambino, 86, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.
Born Irene F. Schultheis on August 3, 1928 in Fulda, Germany, she immigrated to the United States on February 26, 1959. She was very proud to become an American citizen.
She worked for the New York Telephone Co. for many years, finally retiring in 1986. Irene loved "taking the car for a run", disappearing into the Adirondacks often. She was happily able to return to her family in Germany on several occasions.
Irene enjoyed her crosswords, avidly watched golf and loved the New York Mets and (dare we say) Jets.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Piambino in 1984; her parents, Josef and Bertha (Aha) Schultheis, four sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her eldest son, Walter Schultheis (Willy) of Andes, NY; a daughter, Sandra Kelly of Amsterdam, NY and a son, Garry Piambino (Loretta) of Delmar, NY, several loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, especially her niece, Gerga Hilfenhause in Germany.
A special thanks goes out to the caring staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.
A graveside committal service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY.
