Irene Karacoloff, 87, departed this life peacefully on July 12, 2017, at the Eddy Village Green on the Beverwyck Campus in Slingerlands, surrounded by her family. Born on October 22, 1929, Irene and her twin sister Margaret Karacoloff were raised in the South End of Albany. A graduate of Albany High School, Irene spent 36 years at New York Telephone Company (Verizon), where she rose through the ranks to become an accounting department manager.
Irene was pre-deceased by her brothers, James and Christo, and her parents, Stamina and Theodore. She is survived by her sister Margaret, nieces Karen Mercado of Albany and Linda Karacoloff of Cornelius, NC; great-nieces; Monica Mercado of Hamilton, NY and Julie Ann Grabski (Milosz) of Uppsala, Sweden; great-nephew Peter Mercado (Kate) of Wyantskill; great-great nephew Tyler James Mercado; her cousins and many dear friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to her private aides: Donna Burke's care team, and to the staff of the Eddy Village Green, House 31, for the exceptional care and love provided to Irene in her final months.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Irene's family on Sunday, July 16th from 2-6 p.m., at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. The Trisagion Service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 17th from the funeral home.
Entombment will follow the service at the Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery in Albany.
