Irene Carol Lapenis

Irene Carol Lapenis, age 67, of Glenville, died peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2017 with her only sister, Dorothy Ann "Sis", and loved ones by her side. She was born on Jan. 25, 1950 in Albany, NY to the late Vincent and Helen Lapenis.

As a child, Irene loved fishing and watching baseball with her father. She suffered from cerebral palsy and epilepsy but this didn't interfere with her ability to live life to the fullest. After Vincent and Helen passed, Irene was blessed to have been cared for in a group family home through Living Resources. Here she made many friends she grew to love dearly. Irene also attended Cloverpatch program daily where she enjoyed many outings and activities. She absolutely loved listening to her music, mainly the golden oldies and radio personality, Delilah. Irene always looked forward to the next family event, you would always find her at the head of the food line next to the music! Irene loved spending time with her family. She was quite the social butterfly and touched the lives of everyone she met.

Irene is survived by her only sister, Dorothy Ann "Sis" Murphy (the late Frank Murphy), her many nieces and nephews, Lisa Ann (Philip) Dodge, William (Kimberly) Ploof, Laura Gail, James F. Murphy, Jr., Mia Nicole DiGiuseppe, Matthew (Christina) DiGiuseppe, her Goddaughter, Ashley Nicole Sardella, Eva Marie (Dave) Graham, Anthony Angelo Sardella, Aubrey Jane Ploof, Aaron Albert Dodge, Amanda Olivia (Daniel) Clark, Sarah Kimberly Ploof, Samuel Francis Dodge, Morgan DiGiuseppe, Logan & Madalynn DiGuiseppe, and Anthony Vincent.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 4pm-7pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. A service will follow at 7pm at the funeral home.
