ALBANY – Irene M. Glinos, 74, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness.
Irene was born in Albany where she also married her beloved husband Nicholas George Glinos in 1961. He passed away on January 10, 2009.
Irene was a legal secretary before marrying and also worked in her brother's medical practice. She was a homemaker for most of her life spent raising her two daughters.
Irene was a loving and caring mother to Eugenia (David) Alven of Johnson City, TN and Sophia (Craig) Pallone of East Greenbush. Irene is the cherished Yia Yia to Paige Nicole and Lucas Stephen Alven and Thomas James and Matthew Christopher Pallone. She is the sister of Angeline Koutelis, Christine Marklinger and Dr. Michael (Jane) Melas and sister-in-law of Ann Melas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Eugenia (Gotsis) Melas; her brother, Alexander Melas and her brothers-in-law, John Koutelis and William Marklinger.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Teresian House for providing Irene a loving home and to the nurses, aides and doctors at St. Peter's Hospital ER and ICU for the care and comfort Irene received.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church in Albany. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Trisagion Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
