COLONIE - Irene M. (Bassler) Henry, 84, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at St. Peter's Hospital.
She was the devoted wife of the late (2007) Edward J. Henry, Sr. for 58 years and resided in Colonie for 47 years.
Born in Albany, she was a graduate of Albany High School. While raising a family, she held part-time and full-time jobs, and then worked at the NYS Dept. of Transportation for many years prior to her retirement. She taught Sunday school at St. Clare's and volunteered at the Forest Park Elementary School reading to children. In her final days she was still swimming and gardening. For many years she played bridge with the Colonie Senior Citizens. She loved the beach, boat rides, family vacations, celebrations, and holidays; local events, concerts, ballet , picnics, and cats, but most of all she loved entertaining and taking care of her extensive family, friends and neighbors. She was thrifty but generous, a perfectionist but tolerant, funny, talented, and beautiful.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen M. Ebbeson of Albany, Kenneth J. Henry (Daria) of Colonie, Edward J. Henry, Jr. (Debbie) of Schenectady, and Timothy B. Henry of Colonie; her granddaughters Amy Marien (Jon) of Rutland, MA and Melanie Willett (David) of Prior Lake MN; three great-grandchildren, Claire and Luc Willett and Benjamin Marien; her sister Doris Radliff of Niskayuna, and her brother Frederick Bassler of Sebastian, FL. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
