Irene Pierce

COLONIE - Irene Allen Pierce, 100, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Albany County Nursing Home. Born on October 30, 1910 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Myrtle Allen. She was a lifelong area resident. Irene enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crosswords, fishing and relaxing at her camp on Sacandaga Lake. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by them. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Ward D.A. Pierce and her sisters, Evelyn, Shirley and Marie. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Landry of Colonie, and Judy (Robert) Veghte of Colorado; her grandchildren, Christopher (Elaine) Warner, Shelley (Matthew) Asprion, Lisha (Patrick) Pinto, Joanne (Randy) Griffeth, Carla (Dan) Parmentier and Robert (Karyn) Veghte. She has twelve great- grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends who all meant so much to her. Irene's family would like to thank Albany County Nursing Home and the staff for their tender care and love while she was there.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A calling hour will precede the service from 11:00 to 12:00 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Albany County Nursing Home, 780 Albany Shaker Rd., Albany, NY 12211 in memory of Irene Pierce.
