Irene Smith

Glenville- Irene (Szot) Smith, 73, died peacefully at home on February 14, 2023 surrounded by her family. Irene grew up in South Troy after her family immigrated from the Ukraine. She was one of 8 children.

Irene married the love of her life, Jack (John) Smith at just 20 years old and they enjoyed 52 1/2 years of marriage. They had three children, Teri, Kristi (Jim) Clark, and D.J. (Emily) Smith, and 11 grandchildren! They raised their children in Watervliet then moved to Glenville, NY 15 years ago.

Irene loved to road trip it to Montana, Kennebunkport ME, or just a Sunday drive for lunch. Let's not forget all the trips they took on the Harley! Throughout her life she was an active member of her church and had many careers, housewife, teacher, receptionist but what she took most pride in was being a mom and grandmother.

Irene's favorite past time was spending time with her kids and grandchildren. You could always find her cheering them on whether it was on the soccer or baseball field, in the pool, cheer competition or on stage. She will always be remembered for the "little things" like full on tea parties, allowing the girls to give her a "pedi", her sewing, floating in the pool waving at the planes or sneaking an ice cream cone.

Although we will miss her dearly, her memories and traditions will live on. We will love you forever Irene/Momma/Gippy/Grandma!
