MILFORD - Irene R. (Amell) Utter, 84, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia, with her loving daughter at her side.
Irene was born on September 7, 1933 at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ and was the daughter of the late Edwin L. and Herta E. (Bromm) Utter. She was a graduate of Teaneck High School - Class of 1951. She worked for McGraw Hill Book Co. and also Teterboro Airport before moving to Cooperstown. She worked for Bassett Hospital for 24 years in several capacities the business office, Secretary to the Comptroller (Mr. Rodecap) and payroll.
Irene's love was the ocean where she grew up on the Jersey Shores and made a yearly trip to Cape May for many years. She saved for her dream vacation to Hawaii and was able to go three times. Her absolute favorite thing in life were her grandsons. She spent endless hours reading to them, taking them places, taking care of them whenever needed and was their other parent. All her love, patience and time spent with all of us will always be cherished. A women with great sense of humor and total honesty - you always knew where you stood.
Irene's grandparents owned a farm in Westford, NY where she and her brother spent time in the summer visiting and making lifelong friends with the Sugarick Family (Pat Ryan and Delores Willsey). She moved to the Milford Cooperstown area where she remained until her late 70's, where she then moved to Ballston Spa to be with her daughter.
Irene is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Darlene A. (Richard Dottle) Wedderspoon; her cherished grandsons, Kyle A.E. (Victoria) Wedderspoon and Michael R.J. Wedderspoon; and her adored great granddaughter, Victoria Irene Elizabeth Wedderspoon. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert A. Utter.
