ALTAMONT - Irene M. Weatherwax (Reta), 93, of Altamont, born April 20, 1929, passed away on Saturday May 14, 2022.
Daughter of Robert and Helen Lindsay, Reta graduated from Mohawk School, Scotia Junior High, and Scotia High School. She studied accounting at Schenectady Community College.
Reta enjoyed nature, especially bird watching. She was known for her creativity, sharp thinking, and ingenious problem solving. Reta was a hard worker and an avid reader. She lived in the same house at Sharps Corners for 70 years and was a highly valued volunteer at Guilderland Town Hall. Her proudest achievement was that all of her five children went to college and subsequently excelled at their chosen careers. Reta had a large circle of friends representing several age groups and received dozens of birthday cards every year with endearing notes enclosed.
Beloved wife, mother, sibling, and friend, Reta was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Robert (Bob) Weatherwax , daughter, Joan (Chuck) Gilnick, brother Robert Lindsay, and sisters Fay Bateholts and Doris Weise. She is survived by her daughters Diane (Robert) Harrington, Paulette (Michael) Smith, Bobbie Lee (Douglas) Strader, son Robert D. Weatherwax, six grandchildren, brother Thomas Lindsay and her life-long friend since kindergarten, Laura (Reynolds) Bull.
Visiting hours will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 20 at Schenectady Memorial Park, 566 Giffords Church Rd, Schenectady.
