Albany – Irving H. Ahrens, Jr., 80, passed away Monday April 4, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, surrounded by loving family.
Irving was born in Kingston, NY the son of the late Erma and Irving Ahrens, Sr. The family moved to Albany when Irving was a small child and he had called this area home since. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War and worked for Niagara Mohawk for 38 years with the Gas Division. Irv was a member of the Albany Post VFW, the American Legion Joseph Zaloga Post 1520 and the Albany Elks Lodge 173 and was an avid New York Mets fan.
He is survived by his loving partner of 26 years Judy Matteo, his daughters Joanne (Stuart) Widro and Denise (Skip) Ahrens-Borunda, step-sons Joe (Kari) Matteo and Mark (Jennifer) Matteo, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and his faithful canine companion Corky.
The funeral service will be Saturday 11:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be Friday 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
