COLONIE - Irving Ovedovitz passed away on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Albany Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Irving was born in New York City and was the son of the late Morris and Sarah (Yellin) Ovedovitz. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan and Brooklyn College.
Irving retired from the NYS Health Department as assistant director of data processing. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, harness racing, and loved sitting by the ocean in both Ogunquit, Maine and Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Irving is survived by his loving wife, Monica (Murphy) Ovedovitz; his son, David M. Ovedovitz; his daughters, Nancy M. Ovedovitz (Erik Findlay), Vicki A. Wilson (Michael), Donna J. Ritz (Peter) and Caroline M. Rostkowski (Kenneth); his grandsons, Seth Ritz, Zachary Ritz, Peter Ritz, Jr., and Matthew Wilson; his granddaughter, Susan Findlay; his mother-in-law, Anna Murphy; his brother-in-law, Peter Murphy; and his sisters-in-law, Rose Binder and Belle Shamaskin. He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey (Christner) Ovedovitz; his brothers, Louis and Robert Ovedovitz; and his father-in-law, Michael Murphy.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 12 to 2 p.m. His ashes will be scattered at his favorite place along the coast of Maine.
