LOUDONVILLE – Israel J. "Izzy" Garrow Jr., fondly known as Bebop, 81, passed away peacefully with his loving family surrounding him, on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Albany Medical Center.
Izzy was born in Chazy, NY and was the son of the late Israel J. and Mabel (Rogers) Garrow Sr.
Izzy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen M. (Micare) Garrow, whom he adored. Cherished father of four, Christine (John) DeWitt, Izzy (Debbie) Garrow III, Carlene H. Garrow, and Charlene M. Garrow. Beloved grandfather of John (Lori) DeWitt, Bobby (Michele) Garrow, Jason (Melynnda) DeWitt, Deena (Doug) Lake, Katy (Dominick) Barbalace, Robert (girlfriend Chelsea) DeFruscio, Arthur (fiancée Kari) DeFruscio, Monique (Adam) Cohen, and Jacqueline (fiancé Andy) Raymond. Loving great grandfather of Johnny DeWitt V, Dominick and Michael Barbalace, Joey and Gianna Lake, Logan Garrow, and Ari Cohen. Brother of Margaret Canale, Albert (Mary) Garrow, Robert (Pat) Garrow. Brother-in-law, of Gloria Garrow, Gloria Micare, Robert and MaryJane Simons, and Patsy and Mary Lou Micare. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his siblings, Andrew, Alan, and Goldie Garrow and his brothers-in-law, Joseph Micare and Jack Canale.
Izzy retired from Freihofer's Baking Company in 1986. He was the proprietor of Izzy's Pub until 1990 and Ralph's Tavern of Cohoes until 1999. He loved playing cards and chess with all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially enjoyed the pinochle competition amongst himself and his son. He was a member of the Colonie Senior Citizens and the Beltrone Pinochle Club.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 34 New Karner Road, Colonie then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (TODAY) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
