Clifton Park – Ivan C. Osterhout, 85, passed away Saturday June 19, 2010 at Albany Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Ivan was born in Albany, the son of the late Lucy and Ivan Osterhout Sr. and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy where he played and excelled at baseball and basketball and then served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War 2 from 1943-1945. Ivan worked as an electrician for 55 years through the IBEW #724, most notably having worked on the New York State South Mall Agency Buildings. Later in life he worked for New York State OGS with Design and Construction as a State Inspector and was always a willing and able handyman for anyone in need. Ivan was an avid NY Jets and NY Mets fan but above all, he was a loving and dedicated family man.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Edith Osterhout, sons John (Paula) Osterhout and Tom (Michele) Osterhout, son-in-law Jim Coyne, grandchildren: Eric (Colleen) Coyne, Traci Wallace, Michael (Amber) Osterhout, Julia (fiance Jared Stone) Osterhout, Patrick (Kalene) Coyne, Danielle Gannon and Jason Hale, great-grandson Lucas Joshua Osterhout and sister Jean Sheridan. Ivan was predeceased by his daughter Nancy Coyne and granddaughter Stephanie Gannon.
Ivan's family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the 6th floor at Albany Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care.
The funeral service will be held 9:00am Friday from New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church (formerly St. Francis de Sales) 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am. Calling hours will be Thursday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk & Hudson River Human Society 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
