SCHENECTADY – Ivar A. "Roy" Larsen, 86, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2005 at St. Clare's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Roy was born on November 4, 1919 in Brooklyn and was the son of the late Louis and Martha Nygaard Larsen. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the US Army attaining the rank of Technician 5th Class.
Roy worked at General Electric as a machinist for 41 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 22, Bellevue Reformed Church, Empire State Aeronautical Museum, Rotterdam Gun Club, GE Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, carpentry, aviation, theater and music.
Roy is survived by his children, Kristen (Richard) Vadney of Winston-Salem, NC, Paul (Donna) Larsen of Rotterdam, Bruce (Marie) Larsen of Schenectady and Keith (Sarah) Larsen of Panama City, FL; his grandchildren, Lisa Larsen, Kimberly (Vince) DeLucia, Leonard (Erin) Mitchell, Kyle Mitchell, Erica, Erik, Jeanna, Brianne and Matthew Larsen; and his great grandchildren, Vincent, Nicholas and Gabriella DeLucia.
Roy was predeceased by his wife, Betty Jean Gates Larsen. They were married 33 years until her death in 1980.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
