Ivar August

Schenectady- Ivar "Rudy" August, 73, died on Monday, August 15, 2005, at Glendale Nursing Home after a long illness. He was the son of the late Karl and Alice August. Rudy was born on June 25, 1932, in the country of Riga, Latvia. Rudy was a survivor of a German concentration camp. He and his family immigrated to the United States living in Albany, and then later moving to Schenectady, where he lived until his death. Rudy served in the United States Army stationed in Germany. After his tour of duty Rudy went on to work as a truck driver Copper Jarrett Trucking Company, P.I.E. Trucking, C.P. Trucking, and other union trucking companies for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the 294 Local Truckers Union Retiree Chapter. The family would like to thank the doctor's, nurses and staff at St. Clare's Hospital, Community Hospice and Glendale Nursing Home for being there for Ivar and the family, and also for their support through his illness.
Rudy is survived by his son Carl August and his wife Sue of Rotterdam, and his grandchildren; Patricia and Carl Jr. August also of Rotterdam. He is also survived by his wife Elizabeth August of Rotterdam, his sister Ruth Chase of Pleasant Valley, and 3 nephews. Rudy was the long time companion and friend, of over 25 years, of Patricia Butler and her family of Schenectady. He is also survived by his faithful dog Cheyenne and cats Baby Boo and Rudy which he loved so much.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 7:00 Pm at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 Pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308, or to the American Cancer Society, Schenectady County Unit, Crosstown Plaza, Schenectady, NY 12304, in memory of Ivar "Rudy" August.
