J. Fred Haupt

d. June 15, 2006

DELMAR - James Frederick Haupt, of Delmar, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2006 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany on July 12, 1913, he was the son of the late James F. and Alice T. Haupt. After graduating from Albany High School in 1931, Fred worked for the A & P Tea Company. He spent over 20 years managing stores in the Capital District. Fred resigned from the A & P Company and started his own grocery business at the corner of Western Ave. at Gipp Road in Guilderland. In a short time, Fred expanded his operation to what is known as the Westmere Plaza Shopping Center. Fred operated one of the largest independent supermarkets in Albany County, known at the time as Fred's Supermarket. He eventually sold his supermarket business to Bill and Ben Golub, who at that time were running Central Markets and looking to expand their grocery operations. Mr. Haupt continued to run this shopping center and also became a real estate broker. He operated the Albany Area Agency Realtors and was past president of the Albany Realty Board. Mr. Haupt was one of the founding members of Christ Lutheran Church. Fred's faith led him to spend many hours working during the construction of the church. Fred is the beloved husband of 69 years to Herta Keller Haupt. He is the devoted father of Frederick L. Haupt and his wife, Ronaele of Westmere and Linda E. Beaulieu and her husband, Donald of Charlotte, NC. He is the cherished grandfather of Christopher and James Haupt, Jennifer Brace and Bradley and Tara Beaulieu. He is the loving great-grandfather of Zachary and Sydney Haupt, Samantha Brace and Gabrielle Beaulieu.
