Jack D. Johnson, Sr.

Jack D. Johnson Sr., age 86, beloved husband of Rose M. Johnson, passed away on November 16, 2024. He was born on June 10, 1938, to the late Walter Johnson and Esther Hill Johnson, the middle of three siblings. 

He is survived by his brother Clayton D. Johnson Sr., and his children Jack D. Johnson, Jr. (Lisa), Steven E. Johnson (Geraldine), Mark C. Johnson, and Daniel P. Johnson (Anne). He is lovingly remembered by his only grandchild, Rianne Geilenkirchen (Erik) and his numerous nephews and nieces.

Born in Haverhill, New Hampshire, and raised in Cohoes, NY, the family often vacationed in Lisbon, NH, where Jack and his siblings would ride in the back of the family pickup. Jack had a fascination with classic cars and worked over 40 years restoring cars at Hickey Ford and Marshall’s Body Shop. Even after retiring, Jack loved cars - collecting model cars and talking shop with his son, Jack, Jr.

Jack fell for Rose, the storybook “girl next door” and married her in 1964. They enjoyed many years camping in the Adirondacks and caring for their many pets. His beloved cat Murphy, finds a new home with his son, Steven, who shares that love of animals.

Jack was an avid fisherman, a sport that he was joined in by his son, Mark, and in his earlier days enjoyed a game of golf with his brother, Clayton. Most Sundays he could be found cheering on his favorite team, the Bills, or enjoying fresh oysters and clams with a pint of Blue Moon, a fond memory that his granddaughter cherishes. Time with family always meant funny jokes, teasing, and laughs - a trait that most of his children inherited, especially his son, Daniel. 

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Jette and son, Matthew.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home in Watervliet, NY on November 21, 2024 from 4pm - 6pm.  A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 6pm.  Interment will be on a later date at St. Agnes in Cohoes, NY, alongside his son, Matthew.
