Jack R. Kowalchyk, 65, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Rosewood Gardens, with his son Jack by his side. Jack was born in Troy, to Marguerite (Holler) Kowalchyk and the late Jack Holler. Jack proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He truly enjoyed his motorcycles, taking long vacations and traveling on them; he had a love for all animals and cherished spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his father, Jack was predeceased by his step-father, Andrew Kowalchyk and his sister, Andrea Kowalchyk.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of over 45 years, Joyce (Angus) Kowalchyk; his two sons, Jack S. (Alicia) Kowalchyk and Kevin Kowalchyk; four grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; his brother Michael S. (Margaret) Kowalchyk; his sister, Kim (Steve) Pincus; four nephews; one niece and many dear friends.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Fred Shapiro and his staff at NYOH and the staff at Albany Medical Center; and to his dear and closest friends; Len Chuerney, Hubert McDonald and Steve Walsh for all of their care, compassion and support given to Jack.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to; the American Cancer society 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211 or to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer NY 12144 or to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, ASSV PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092 in Jack's memory.
Family and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. There will be a prayer service at 5:30. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
