LATHAM, NY – Jack R. Payne, 86, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. He was born in Oswego, NY and had been a Schenectady area resident for most of his life. Jack was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving his country during World War II. He flew 32 successful missions over Germany from England. After serving his country, he graduated from Clarkson University and then went to work for General Electric Company, retiring in 1984. Jack (Spider) was a life long avid golfer. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary St. John Payne. He is survived by his wife, Janet Empie-Payne. Jack is the father of Nancy Marie Payne and Linda Marie (Wesley) Schrom of Raleigh, NC. He is the step-father of Karen J. Empie, Kristen A. Empie, Andrew S. Empie and Robert G. (Laura) Empie. He is the grandfather of Stacey M. Schrom, Michael, Robert and Jeffrey Empie and Megan and Jack Empie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Calling hours will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 or to the charity of one's choice in memory of Jack R. Payne.
