ALBANY- John W. Foley, 73, of Albany passed away at home with his family by his side on Friday August 13, 2010.
Jack was born in Albany and a lifelong resident of the city. He was the son of the late Vesta M. Foley. Jack was appointed to the Albany Fire Department in October, 1960. He was a founding member of the Albany Permanent Firefighters Association. Jack started his career at Engine 11 and was a chosen member of the Rescue Squad. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1972 and assigned to Engine 11 on New Scotland Ave where he served as the only Lieutenant on "D" Shift until his retirement in 1995. Jack loved to meet other retirees very Tuesday morning at the "Breakfast Club". He was a 19 year member of the Albany Elks was proud to call himself a "49er". He was an original member of the Elks Dart League. Jack's biggest passion was being a fan of the Albany Metro Mallers semi-pro football team. He followed every game since their inception in 1973. Jack was thrilled to travel to Florida to watch "his" Mallers win the National Championship in 2008.
Jack was the much loved husband of Cheryl A. Foley for 27 years. He is the proud father of six sons, Lt. John W. (Jack) Foley (AFD) and his wife Cindy, Kevin, Chris, Jeff and his wife Diane, Michael and his wife Teresa and Thomas (TJ) Foley and his wife Liz. He is the cherished grandfather of six grandsons, John (Jack) W. III, Sean, Kyle, Josh, Zander and Drake Foley. He is the brother of the late Tess Fratianni. Jack is the brother in law of Herb and Judy Moreland, Mary Himmelberger, Michael Moreland, Billy and Nancy Moreland, Kathy and Nino Minissale, Pam and Kevin Kelly, Kelly and Jeff Santore and Chris and Mark Tenney. He is the uncle of Sandy Owens, Vince Fratianni and John (Jack) W. Fratianni. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and his dear friend of fifty years, Ted Wagner.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 11:30 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
