LATHAM – Jacqueline "Jacqui" Lefkowitz, 70, passed away peacefully at her home on March 30, 2010, after a courageous 5 ½ year battle with lung cancer. Jacqui was born in Queens, NY, the daughter of the late Sol and Shirley Feldman. She graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish, and received her Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Albany. She began her career as a foreign language teacher at Linton High School, later becoming the Chairperson of the Foreign Language Department. Jacqui received her certificate in school administration from the College of St. Rose. In 1994 she became an Assistant Principal at Schenectady High School until her retirement in 2001 after 30 years of service and a distinguished career. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Leonard Lefkowitz; her son Wayne (Marjorie) Lefkowitz of San Ramon, CA, her daughters Tara (Jeff) Molinar and Jeri Ras, all of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren Michael and Matthew Lefkowitz, Aden, Noah and Sydney Molinar and Alexander Ras; her sister Ronnie (Mickey) Krinsky and her cousin Judy (Mort) Horowitz, all of Lakeland, FL. Many nieces and nephews also survive. The family thanks Community Hospice of Albany for their kind care. A special thank you to her aides, Agnes DeCicco and Dolly Harris from Accent Health Care, who provided loving and outstanding care to Jacqui. Finally thanks to her doctors, Dr. Steven Goldberg and Peter Lamparello.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. A period of mourning will be observed at the Lefkowitz home, 14 Alpine Drive, Latham on Wednesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friends are invited to make memorial contributions to the Jacqueline Lefkowitz Scholarship Fund, c/o Gudrun Merrow, 11 Albion St., Scotia, NY 12302. The established fund will be for a Schenectady High School Senior pursuing a course of study in foreign languages.
