GUILDERLAND, NY – James A. Williams, known affectionately as Uncle Jimmy to many, died at home on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the age of 85. Born in Ticonderoga, NY, he was the son of the late Aldrich and Edith McNally Williams and a long time resident of Guilderland. Proud of his Army service during World War II, he received a Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster and a Purple Heart. His unit fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Jim was a local home builder for many years and spent two decades as a land developer in North Carolina. He was a member of the Guilderland Elks and the V.F.W. His passion for flying was halted because of a deteriorating eye condition. He was known for his creative storytelling and his strong opinions. He will be missed by all. Jim was the devoted husband of the late Viola J. Wier Williams who predeceased him in 2007. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Joan (Harold) Williams and Evelyn (Stewart) Williams and his brother-in-law, Heinz (Jean) Strassner. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all whom he treated as his own children.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
