Loudonville- James W. Brown, Beloved Husband, Father and Papa passed away peacefully as he slept at home on Monday April 12th. He had recently celebrated his 94th birthday.
Jim was born in Binghamton N.Y. in 1927 to Roy J and Helen (Jacob) Brown.
He started his working life young, as a paperboy, a soda jerk, and a clerk in a hardware store.
He was 17 when his Father died in 1944. To do his part for the war effort and to support his mother and sister, he joined the U.S. Navy.
After the war he went to work for New York Telephone as a Splicers Helper. He retired 41 years later as a Senior Internal Auditor in Menands.
He was a member of the American Legion (Zaloga Post), Colonie Elks, Telephone Pioneers, Sons of the Revolution and the Adirondack A's Antique car club.
Jim was a communicant, usher and volunteer at St. Pius X Church. He also delivered meals on wheels, worked with the United Way , repaired talking books for the blind and organized blood drives for many years.
Jim enjoyed Golfing, Antique cars and watching the Yankees with family and friends. He also loved traveling, touring the country, cruising the seas, attending Notre Dame Football games and the Hershey antique auto shows. Jim also on occasion would enjoy a C.C. Manhattan straight up and a good cigar with his Grandson Luchi.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Jane (Furner) Brown; son, David F. (Maria) Brown of Athens; daughter, Mary C. Brown and her husband John M. Burkett of Menands; three Grandchildren, Nicholas, Lucian and Alina Brown; nephews and a niece.
He was predeceased by his first wife Mary E. (Sullivan) Brown and his sister Helen Jean Steigerwald.
Special thanks to family and friends who have helped care for Jim for many years, especially his grandsons Nick and Luchi, also Gavin Taranto and Linda.
A private service will be held on Monday, with a Celebration of his life to be held at a later date.
