Colonie- James E. Coffey, Sr., passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 3, 2016 at his home. The son of the late George W. and Rose (Cudemo) Coffey, he was born on July 2, 1946 in Albany, NY. He graduated from Colonie High School in 1964, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. Jim faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a proud Teamster for many years. After his career as a truck driver he worked for the DMV until his retirement.
Jim was a true family man. When he coached his children's teams in both baseball and softball, he was always full of life and fun to be around while being extremely non-judgmental. He also liked going to the casino where he enjoyed his good luck. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by children: Lia Papa of Rhode Island, James E. Coffey, Jr., Joann Coffey and Jeffrey Coffey; his grandchildren: Brittany, Brianna, Bradley, Niki, Danielle, Sarah, Stephanie and David; his great-grandchildren: Dominic, Shannon, Giovanni and Valentina; his siblings: Helen (Coffey) Zanello and her husband Louis and David A. Coffey and his wife Nancy; his sister-in-law Mimi; his partner of seven years Carolee Bennett and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother George W. Coffey, Jr.
Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 12 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to a Lewy Body Dementia Association of your choice.
