LOUDONVILLE – James D. "Sully" O'Sullivan, 76, left this life for a better one, without pain and sickness, on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, after a brave fight with cancer. Born in Albany on March 24, 1933, he was the son of the late Timothy J. and Mary Hipwood O'Sullivan. He was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School and a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. Sully retired from Niagara Mohawk Corp. in 1985 on St. Patrick's Day after 40 years of service. He was a communicant and usher at Historic St. Mary's Church in Albany. Sully was an active member of Ralph's Breakfast Club, Colonie Elks Lodge #2192, Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post and the Polish American Citizens Club. He was an avid N.Y. Giants fan. Sully is the beloved husband of 50 years to Joan Eggleston O'Sullivan. He is the devoted father of James (Kathleen) O'Sullivan of Houston, TX, Timothy (Pamela Grant) O'Sullivan of Apalachin, NY, Mary Patricia (Robert) Lynch and Sean (Alissa Parsons) O'Sullivan, all of Albany and Sharon (Jason) Linscott of Arlington, WA. He is the cherished grandfather of Colleen and Kellie O'Sullivan, Michael, Christopher and Jennifer Lynch and Gina Grace O'Sullivan. He is the loving brother of George (Leona) O'Sullivan of Mansville, NY, Dennis (Cynthia) O'Sullivan of Rensselaer and the late Timothy O'Sullivan, Jr. The family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Lutheran Nursing Home and Albany Medical Center Hospital for the care given to Sully in his last weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church. Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Those wishing to remember Sully in a special way may make contributions to St. Francis de Sales Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of James O'Sullivan.
