HALFMOON – James C. Daly, 83, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on June 8, 1937 in Fort Edward, son of the late Timothy Brian and Dorothea (Finn) Daly. He was a graduate of Fort Edward High School. Subsequently, he attended Siena College, Class of 1960, receiving his Bachelor's degree in chemistry.
James worked as a chemist for the NYS Dept. of Health at the Wadsworth Lab, where he met his wife. He later earned his Master's degree in chemistry from the University of Rochester, Class of 1964. He also proudly served his country in the US Army.
James enjoyed all things Irish, including music, Irish Step Dancing, food – especially homemade baked scones that he made from scratch. He took three trips to Ireland where he was an avid photographer. He sold those photos at craft fairs once he returned to the USA.
He was the jolliest introvert ever known. He was always supportive, selfless, and encouraging. He is and always will be, the most gentle, kindest man ever. He had a quirky, dry sense of humor and always laughed at his own jokes. Which made them even funnier! He observed life quietly and took pleasure in doing so. He was never rude or mean and anyone who had the good fortune to know him had nothing but good things to say.
During the annual vacations to York Beach, Maine, even though he did not know how to swim, he would take turns picking up all of his kids and holding them high when the waves got too big for them. He would laugh when the wave would almost knock him over or knock off his glasses or his hat. He always put his family first. He was one of a kind and he leaves behind the embodiment of what is a truly good man.
James is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol Ann (O'Clair) Daly; his children, Maureen Daly, Heather (Sam) Scamardo, Lisa (Daly) Scanlon, James P. Daly, Kristen Daly, and the late Kathleen Erin Daly; his grandchildren, Jackson Tate, Cassandra Kathleen, Eric James, Samantha Kathleen, Shaylynn Patricia, Charles Wesley, Samuel Richard, Alexander Ira, Milo Sebastian, and Julian Oliver; his great granddaughters, Hope Davis and Alison Rose; his siblings, Ann (Richard) Dingman, Lawrence (Sally) Daly, and the late Dorothy Truesdale, Timothy Daly, and James' twin, Mary Lou Sweet; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be held at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville, at 11:30 am, Friday, March 5, 2021. All are welcome to attend. Burial will take place at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, immediately following the Mass. Wearing masks and social distancing will be required.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you
in the palm of His hand.
