COLONIE – James T. Doherty, 79, of Colonie, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late James J. and Mary Leach Doherty. Mr. Doherty resided in Colonie for 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. Jim worked for the A & P Market, retiring after 38 years. More recently, he worked for ten years at SUNY, Albany, retiring in 1990. Mr. Doherty was a member of the VFW in Schenectady. He was a stamp collector and also enjoyed bowling. Jim is the beloved husband of almost 50 years to Jessie H. Bucholski Doherty. He is the devoted father of James F. Doherty and his wife, Cherylann of Colonie and Michael J. Doherty of Colonie. He is the cherished grandfather of Kelly, Michelle and Ashley Doherty. He is the brother of Alice Burke of Latham and the late Mary Patrick and Michael (Joe) Doherty. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to the Church of St. Adalbert at 9:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of James T. Doherty. Expressions of sympathy may be made at newcomerfamily.com
