TROY – James Duncan, died October 25, 2005, at his residence. Born on January 24, 1930 in Elmore Co. (Millbrook) AL, he was the first child of the late Mary Lou and Tommie Duncan. He was educated at Elmrose Co. Training School in Wetumpka, AL and at an early age joined the Goodship Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. G.W. Bradford. Mr. Duncan fought bravely in the Korean War. "Duncan" worked for many years for the Albany Housing Authority from where he retired in 1995. He enjoyed his volunteer work at Trinity Institution. Duncan touched so many people in his giving way. He leaves to mourn his wife of 17 years, Leatrice H. Steele-Duncan of Troy; his siblings, Tommie Duncan, Jr. of Austin, TX, George Duncan, Rebecca McCree , John (Shirley) Duncan of Millbrook, AL and the late Lorezo and Marvin Duncan. He is the father of Chester (Esther) Duncan of Millbrook, AL, Jamie (Johnnie Sewell) Alexander of Greenville, SC, Dena (Derrick) Copeland of Simpsonville, SC, Gary Wright of Seattle, WA, Ricky (April) Jenkins of Marlboro, MD, Calvin (Marilyn) Jenkins and Candy Jenkins of Hartford, CT, Rhonda (Leslie) Austin and Cedric (Shaunte) Duncan of Millbrook, AL; stepfather of Denise (Michael) Smalls of Forrestville, MD and Leatrice Davis and Laurel Thatcher of Albany. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Funeral services will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Albany. One hour of calling will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
