COHOES – James E. Bortle, 45, of Cohoes, died suddenly on Monday February 4, 2008 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Walter F. and Shirley J. Lockwood Bortle Sr.
Jim was a 1980 graduate of Colonie Central High School. He had worked for DePaula Chevrolet for several years prior to his current position as a fabricator with Saxton Signs in Schodack. Jim was a racing enthusiast and active in the local dirt track scene. He was a crew member of his family's racing team, 619 Racing at Lebanon Valley and Fonda Speedway. Jim enjoyed bowling and was an avid fan of Nascar and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his dear friend Edie Duncan and her son Stephen; his brothers and sisters, Donna Gauthier and her husband Charles of Albany, Sharon DeFreest of Florida, Thomas Bortle and his wife Linda, David Bortle, Walter F. Bortle Jr. and his wife Barbara, Robert Bortle and his wife Donna all of Colonie. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim will be dearly missed by his canine companion Spade.
Funeral services will be Friday at 12 noon at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery.
