James E. Hughes

March 13, 1928 — April 18, 2016

James E. Hughes, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Evergreen Commons Nursing Home.

James was the son of the late John M. Hughes, Sr. and Barbara L. Hughes.

James proudly served with the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Kearsarge. He retired after 28 years of service.

He worked for many years at Rosano's Farm Store and Millbrook Bakery. He retired from NYS - OGS.

He enjoyed being an active member of Bethany Reformed Church for many years.

In addition to his parents; James was predeceased by his adored wife of over 64 years, Elaine K. Hughes; his brother, John M. Hughes Jr., and his grandson Mark K. Hughes.

James is survived by his children, Leslie Hughes and David (Marcia Bobik) Hughes. His grandchildren; Amy (Michael) Ovitt and Megan Hughes. He is also survived by his three great grandchildren; Rickey Dickinson, Isabella and David Ovitt. He loved spending time with his family.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10:00 am at Bethany Reformed Church 760 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY 12208. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Interment will follow the service in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bethany Reformed Church 760 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.
