COLONIE – James "Jimmy" Eugene Prostack, born March 11, 1933 in Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School where he was a star basketball player and went on to play basketball for the United States Navy, for which he proudly served. Mr. Prostack worked for thirty six years as a postal carrier and, prior to retirement, as Secretary to the Superintendent of the United States Post Office in Schenectady. Jimmy was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157. He was an avid golfer and proud volunteer of the Special Olympics New York. Upon his departure, he was waiting for his "tee-time" at the Heavenly Gates Country Club. He was predeceased by his mother and step-father, John and Sophie LaButta and his father Anthony Prostack. Jimmy tenderly cared for his mother prior to her passing. He also shared the journey of his most beloved wife of many years, Lois Sparrow Roberts Prostack during her illness and passing. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife Mary Alys Dixon Rickert Prostack and their daughter Rebecca (Steven) Rickert Santoli of Fairfield, CT. He also leaves behind his brother, Jake (Diane) LaButta of Greenfield Center, his sister, Carol (James) Glyn of Highland, MD; his brothers-in-law, James (Dina) Dixon, Richard (Mary Beth) Dixon, Edward (Eileen) Dixon and John (Mary) Dixon; his first wife Lois' children, Kim (Mary) Roberts, Dawn (Sammie) Donadio, Robin (Lucy) Roberts, Sherry Roberts, Lisa (David) LaDuke and Bobbie (Boone) Stribling. Jimmy was "PaPa" to his beautiful grandchildren, Lucy, George and John Santoli and "PaPa Jim" to Lois' fourteen beloved grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Jimmy also leaves behind his dearly loved nieces and nephews, and many great friends and neighbors who supported him during his illness.
It is Jimmy's wish that there be no calling hours. Family and friends are welcome to gather together on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at St. Clare's Church, Colonie.
