COLONIE – James F. "Skip" Egan, 87, of Colonie, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends on Monday September 17, 2012.
Skip was born January 8, 1925 in North Albany to the late Philip and Mary Robinson Egan. He was the husband of the late Mildred Lois Domery Egan. Skip served in the Coast Guard during WWII with tours in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He was a founder and 65 year member of the North Albany American Legion Post 1610 where he had served twice as the Post Commander and as the Albany County Legion Commander. Skip was a lifetime active member for 55 years with the Colonie Fire Company where he had served in many capacities, including Department Chief. He was a retired member of the Iron Workers Local 12. Skip will be remembered as an avid golfer, great volunteer, devoted friend, loving father and grandfather
Skip was the step father of John "Jack" (Cathy) Hooley of Broadalbin, Lawrence (Nancy) Hooley, of Latham, Timothy Hooley of Niskayuna and James Hooley of Alexandria, VA. He was the father of Nancy Lucarelli, Patricia (Sam) Vardaro and Susan Malewicz all of Colonie. Skip was adored by his 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons. He was the devoted brother of Phyllis Egan of Albany, Elizabeth Garhartt of Colonie, Philip (Ann) Egan of North Greenbush and the late Winifred Osl, Margaret Jubic, Agnes Fournier and Vincent Egan. He was the brother in law of Joan Egan. Skip was also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was also loved by his many brothers of the Colonie Fire Company and North Albany American Legion Post 1610.
Funeral services will full Departmental Honors will be Saturday morning at 10:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church at 11:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National VA Cemetery.
