James F. Healey, Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at St. Peters Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Queens, NY to the late James and Mary Healey. James resided in both Long Island and Michigan before settling down in the Capital District. He proudly served for the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959, and was with the Nassau County Police Force from 1961 to1964 and moved to the Albany area in 1967. Jim worked doing construction and in 1976 started his own lawn maintenance business, Jim's Lawn Service. He retired in 1997. Jim was an avid gardener and also enjoyed working on his computer. He became a Master Gardner in 1999. He served as Co-chair in 2001 and 2002 and then continued as Chair for 10 years of the Hudson Adirondack Daylily Society. He was an active member of the Capital Hudson Iris Society and the Upstate New York Hosta Society. He also served as fundraiser for the Capital District Computer Enthusiast of New York. Jim was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Linda Healey, three daughters, Colleen (Matthew) Luke of Ballston Lake, Kim (Wes Holloman) Kolp of Florida and Barbara (Robert) Janney of South Carolina and one son, James Tucker (Maria) of Malone. He is the brother of Theresa Healey and Beth (Paul) Rhoda and his three brothers Timothy (Louise) Healey, Michael Healey and Edward Healey. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremy, Cory, Andrew, Melanie, John, Kaylin and Brittany and two great grandchildren Madalyn and Connor and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Rd., Albany, NY 12211 or to the American Lung Association on New York State 155 Washington Ave., Suite 210 Albany, NY 12210 in Jim's memory.
Funeral service for Jim will be on Thursday at 12:00pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 10 to 12. Interment will follow in the Service at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National VA Cemetery, Schuylerville.
