Schenectady – James H. Famiano, 88, passed away Sunday September 12, 2010 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
James was born in Rotterdam, NY the son of the late Mariella and Stephen Famiano and was a lifelong area resident. He was raised by his father and step-mother Luigella Famiano and attended Draper School. James proudly served in the US Army from 1940 to 1945 in the Pacific Theatre and was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for thirty years. He enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, bocce ball, gardening and was an avid NY Yankee fan.
James is survived by his wife Anna, whom he marred June 12, 1949 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Amsterdam, their daughters: Barbara Colon of CA, Judith (Nick) Messere, Linda (Richard) DiCaprio and Donna (Gary) Lessard, grandchildren: Jessica and Joleen Coons, Nicholas Messere, Stacia Devine, Joseph and Michael DiCaprio, Amy Reynolds, Anthony and Kimberly Lessard and Kathryn Piechnik, 9 great-grandchildren, sister Gertrude Coulson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Susan T. Piechnik and his siblings: Louis, Rose, Anthony, Charles, John, Frank, Angelina, Josephine and Stephen.
Funeral services will be held Friday 8:30am from New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie then to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Schenectady where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am. Calling hours will be Thursday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stratton VA Medical Center 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.
