James H. Meyer, Sr.

James H. Meyer, Sr, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 24, 2016 after a brief illness. James was born in Albany to the late Oscar and Ruth Meyer. Jim worked as a draftsman for the State of New York. He later retired from the Town of Colonie, Pure Waters Department. Jim worked at PJ's Petals & Plaids Flower Shop where he fondly became known as "Boy". In 1960 Jim joined the Midway Fire Department, where both his father and soon to be father-in-law were founding members. His service with Midway Fire spanned over 25 years in which he held the positions of Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. He served on the Board of Fire Commissioners for many years, retiring as Chairman of the Board. Jim also served the Town of Colonie as a Fire Coordinator. His commitment to the Fire Service was a lifelong passion for Jim.

James was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Meyer.

James is the father of James Jr. "The Flower Guy" and Scott and Marge Meyer. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Bernie O'Hare, a sister-in-law, Patricia Meyer, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to receive friends and family for calling on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 3-7pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Funeral services will be on Friday at 9am at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Memory Gardens, Colonie
