Hoffman, James F. SCHENECTADY. James (Jim) F. Hoffman, 68, died suddenly on Thursday, November 13th, 2008, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, N.Y. Jim was born in Greenport, N.Y. on June 17th, 1940.
A member of the armed services (army and marine corps) since the age of 17, Jim received the Purple Heart Medal for an injury he sustained during combat in the Vietnam War. During his stay in Vietnam he also received numerous other decorations including the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V", the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Marksman Qualification.
Upon his honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces, Jim attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy N.Y. There he studied Refrigeration and Air Condition repair. In 2002 Jim retired from Albany County, where he worked as a mechanic.
Jim is survived by three daughters, Theresa and husband John (Bonniello), Jennifer and Sarah; and his son Jimmy, his brothers Art, Joseph (Barbara), Donnie (Ginny), his sister Betty (Bob). He is also survived by a granddaughter Grace and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
