James J. Cornell

October 25, 1948 — August 16, 2014

WESTERLO-James J. Cornell, 65 passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Albany, NY the son of the late James H. and Florence (Collins) Cornell. He graduated from Guilderland High School in 1967 and served in the US Army during Vietnam. James was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #7 since 1972. He was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all he loved his family, especially his wife and son.
James is survived by his beloved wife Karen (Nottke) Cornell, their 42nd wedding anniversary would have been September 23, 2014 and by his loving son Paul Cornell. He is also survived by his siblings Donald Cornell, Catherine Flansburg (Lawrence), Theresa "Teddy" Cornell and Helene LaQue (Donald); brother-in-law John Nottke (Barbara) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Vascular ICU at Albany Medical Center Hospital for the care and compassion James received.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his brother Richard Cornell and by his sister Dorothy J. Cornell.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, 618 State Route 143, Westerlo, NY 12193.
Interment will be at Bethlehem Rural Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Westerlo or to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of James.
