GUILDERLAND – James J. Kavanagh, Jr., 88, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on September 7, 1920 in Schenectady and was the son of the late James J. and Theresa (Eddy) Kavanagh Sr. He served in the US Army during WWII, attaining the rank of Private First Class. He owned and operated Kavanagh's Trucking Service in Albany for over 20 years. He then worked for Albany Linoleum and Carpet for 15 years before retiring in 1982. He was a communicant of Christ the King Church.
James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie (Tricomi) Kavanagh; his beloved daughter, Donna M. Kavanagh of Guilderland; his brother, Frank Kavanagh of Colonie; and his devoted dog, Sam. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen McManus.

Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to Christ the King Church, 20 Sumpter Ave., Guilderland, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome.
