James D. Lanigan, 86, of Rotterdam, New York passed away on Monday, March
14, 2022 with his loving family by his side. He was the son of the late Laurence
Stanislaus Lanigan and Hanorah (O'Callahan) Lanigan.
James received his education from Russell Sage College and earned his degree in
substance abuse counseling. He was a lifetime member of Local 2 Bricklayers and
Allied Craft Workers. He was the former President of St. Vincent De Paul Society.
He was an Ombudsman for local nursing homes, and advocated for the elderly
and disabled. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Evangelist in
Schenectady.
James enjoyed spending time with his entire family and pets. He was a beloved
husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
James was predeceased by his wife, Rhona Maria Cooper Lanigan. Survivors
include his children: Ann (Michael) O'Connor, John (Lisa) Lanigan, Maura (David)
Walton, James Lanigan, Siobhan (Andrew) Hill; his grandchildren: Stephanie,
Meghan, Briana, David, Patrick, Kristen, Jennifer, Daniel, Grace and Nicholas; and
his great-grandchildren: Cullen, Noelle, Gavin, Eila and Esra, and his sisters and
brother, Eileen (Gene) Morgan, Marion Logan, Annette Brennan, and Stan (Peggy)
Lanigan. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Calling hours will be held at St. John the Evangelist, 806 Union Street,
Schenectady on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a
Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery,
Dunnesville Road, Rotterdam, New York.
