James M. Cox, known as Jim by his friends, 65, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20th, 2015. He was the son of Raymond Cox and Margaret Coonrad Cox.
Jim attended The College of St. Rose where he earned a Masters Degree in Arts. While attending college, he followed in his father's shoes by joining the NY state workforce. First with OGS and later with NY state police as civil employee. He was a security supervisor and a dedicated employee for 32 years.
Jim loved his sports. He was a avid football fan and loved his teams, the NY Giants and Notre Dame. He coached JV football at LaSalle Institute and Averill Park for several seasons. He also was a public announcer for some of the Colonie football games. Jim enjoyed other sports-baseball, MLS soccer, rugby and Australian football. Also, Jim was a big soccer fan and attended several Red Bulls games. He also enjoyed attending Valley Cats games. For several years he was the public announcer at Colonie football games.
His favorite activity, though, was star gazing. He would spent many nights looking through a telescope or binoculars at the planets and stars. He loved talking about astronomy and sharing his knowledge with anyone.
Jim was the devoted husband to Linda Cox. They were married for 33 years. Also surviving is his brother, Ken Cox, and his aunt, Sally Cox. They will dearly miss him.
A memorial celebration will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Albany, on November 30th, 2015 from 5 to 7 pm. A service of poems and sharing of memories with friends will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Jim's name.
