Colonie – James P. Hughes, 78, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at his residence.
He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Raymond J. and Annamay Heim Hughes. Jim was employed for 46 years at the Albany Times Union. He was a member of the Lisha Kill Seniors and had been an avid bowler.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Avis Harbinger Hughes. He is the devoted father of Deborah Hughes, James (Peggy) Hughes, David (Linda) Hughes and William (June) Hughes. He is the proud Poppy of Valerie Portanova, Jay Hughes, Dennis (Rebecca) Hughes, Heather King, Chelsea, Elaina and Lydia Hughes. He is the great grandfather of Aiden Correa, Caleb and Logan Hughes. Jim is the brother of Anna Mae McDonald (late Edmund), Kathryn (Arthur) Thomas, Raymond J. (Diane) Hughes Jr. and the late Elizabeth (Robert) Brown. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 11:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
