James R. O'Brien

GUILDERLAND-James R. O'Brien, 62 passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospice following an illness. James was born in Rockville Center, NY the son of the late James G. and Doris E. (Burns) O'Brien. He grew up in Guilderland, NY and graduated from Guilderland Central High School in 1969. James was a member of the Unity of Faith Christian Fellowship Church and participated in various activities. He was employed by the Guilderland DPW and the Charles Freihofer Baking Company. James was an avid reader, enjoyed reading Western novels, watching Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and doing crossword puzzles.
James is survived by his wife of 18 years Kathleen (DeForge) O'Brien, his stepson Rick (Leanne) Vanne; his siblings Jacqueline A. (Michael) Robinson, Mark W. O'Brien and Richard O'Brien. He also leaves behind his sister in law Linda O'Brien; nieces and nephews Sean O'Brien, Devin O'Brien, Sarah O'Brien, Phillip Robinson, Megan Robinson Griffin and Ethan Robinson, a great niece and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his brother Kevin J. O'Brien.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Altamont.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice in memory of James.
