James M. Ryan

BALLSTON LAKE-James M. "Jim" Ryan, 73, passed away on December 31, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born in Plattsburgh on January 20, 1944, the fourth of five sons of Daniel and Gertrude (Coffey) Ryan. He attended St. John's Academy for grade school and Mount Assumption Institute for high school, graduating in 1962. Jim went on to receive his bachelor's degree in education from Plattsburgh State and taught at Plattsburgh Middle School before starting his real estate company, Ryan Realty, in Plattsburgh. Jim was a member of the Clinton County Board of Realtors and truly loved the real estate profession. While in Plattsburgh, he was also an active member of the Lion's Club. Upon selling Ryan Realty, he moved to the Albany, New York area and established a real estate company, which he successfully operated for many years. Jim had a lifelong passion for horse racing and handicapping and lost with dignity and grace.

Jim is survived by his former spouse, Sara, their four children, to whom he was devoted, Colleen (Paul) Franchini, of East Greenbush, New York, Kate (Garry) Wright, of Ringwood, New Jersey, Matthew (Emma) Ryan, of Austin, Texas and Kevin (Paula) Ryan, of Hightstown, New Jersey as well as nine grandchildren whom he adored. He is also survived by three brothers and their spouses, Thomas and Nancy Ryan of Freehold, New Jersey, John and Mary Ryan of Staunton, Virginia and Kevin and Mary Ryan of Plattsburgh. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his brother Dan.

At Jim's direction, there will be no services. Burial of his remains will be at St. Augustine's Cemetery, Peru, NY at a later date.
